Making progress on the staff but still have a LONG way to go! I'm about 1/2 done with the burning, then it will get a light sanding, a cherry stain and then burnished to a beautiful shine ^_^ I can't wait to see it done!!
Try to ignore the mess.... Still in the process of moving, sorting and organizing....

After another round of confusion at the last event, I decided to burn identifying marks in to my wooden serving trays. Since there are two, I burned my dandelion in one and my husband's acorns on the other.
A third got mixed in (Eep! How embarrassing...) and, once I found the owner, I offered to burn something on that as well to prevent this from happening again. I would have had this done earlier but my workshop has moved from the back porch to the den and I just got enough sorted and settled to allow me to do it! I still haven't done much - my back is almost better but I can't sit hunched over anything... so I can't do the woodburning on my feast gear trays like I want to.
But last night I tried a modified recipe for beer bread that turned out VERY well. Spicy Beer Bread 3 cups self rising flour 1/2 cup sugar 12 oz. chili cerveza (http://www.glibeer.com/products/pancho_verde_chili_cerveza/ is the brand I used) Almost 2 tbsp of fried garlic (found at the local oriental market) Large dash of cayenne 2 tbsp melted butter Dollop of Sambal Oelek chili paste Mix the dry ingredients well, add the beer. Pour in to a floured loaf pan and bake at 350 for 55 minutes. While waiting, mix the melted butter and Sambal. In the last 3 minutes brush the top of the bread with the butter. I forgot to take pictures.... but I'll be making more! It tasted wonderful! I'm also going to try a sweeter variation with cinnamon and ginger... maybe use brown sugar instead... hmmm.... For the Yay!
Tokens were well received (though I made WAY more than I needed to. I was very optimistic about turnout but a lot of people didn't make it. -_- The banners are very much loved, so I am very happy about that. ^_^ Third YAY! is that my workshop is moving from the back porch (which has no temperature control so I don't spend as much time there as I want) to the den (Which has comfortable seating, good lighting and a ceiling fan)! This is still in the works, is a mess and is not at all ready for use. As to the Aww.... think I pulled a muscle in my back at some point in the last couple days. I tried to be careful to avoid that - but all it takes is one moment of distraction and I am the QUEEN OF DISTRACTION! So, I'm going to force myself to take it easy for the next couple days, do some simple stretches, drink lots of water and hope I don't make it worse in the two days I have left before vacation starts. Though I have not posted, I have not been idle. The site tokens for Ragnarok are finished! I'm happy with most of them. Certainly a learning experience.... By the time I finished I was really getting the hang of it. (quite a few mistakes along the way, though) These banners are almost finished, too! Mostly touch ups now. There are parts I am not happy with - mostly being low on green paint with no chance of getting more in time for a good additional coat.
They look the same on both sides ^_^ I want to decorate the lute with some gold... but I'm not sure I want to tempt fate, either. It still seems inadequate as payment for the beautiful feast gear chest Duane the Rover made for me.... Other than that, my father-in-law is going to be visiting soon so a few days in the last week have been dedicated to cleaning and rearranging. I'm taking a vacation next week - between real work and tasks I promised, I'm just feeling burned out. I will probably still work on projects, but the fun kind that have no deadlines or expectations attached. I really need to get back to that. ^_^ Though I keep forgetting to update, I have not been entirely idle. I've been working on quite a bit of woodburning. That's one of the items. Lots of the site tokens for our next event, but all that is being set aside for the moment so I can finish a couple of banners I'm trading for a BEAUTIFUL feast gear chest that was made for us! It will be painted on both sides. After this, I will do another for his wife. With a little focus I should be able to finish them both in the next couple days. ^_^
