I have just a few more to go to be done with the borders on the pennants - 2 layers of paint on each side to ensure coverage. It also makes them VERY sturdy.
Hopefully by tonight I will be starting with the red backgrounds.
They are cleaner than the last batch. I have gotten the pattern memorised and do not have to use reference materials anymore ^_^
Aside from that....
Yesterday I noticed the bit of milk left in the fridge had gone sour. Milk is always doing that to me... I think it's a matter of spite. So I did some looking and found a tempting recipe.
It came out WONDERFULLY!
Sour-Milk Gingerbread
-------------------------------
1 Scant Cup Molasses
1/2 Cup Thick Sour Milk
4 Tbsp Shortening, melted
2 Cups Flour
1 Egg (I used a duck egg)
4 Tbsp Cocoa (I used Special Dark. Because yum.)
1 Tsp Ginger
1/2 Tsp Baking Soda
1/8 Tsp Salt (Fancy way of saying 'a pinch')
Preheat oven to 350
Mix molasses, sour milk and beaten egg well.
Add cocoa, ginger, salt and flour.
Dissolve soda in very little hot water and add (unless you space out and add it with the rest of the dry ingredients and mix them all up really well. Then curse as creatively as possible, shrug and trust they will still be fine)
Beat in melted shortening last.
Bake in a shallow pan or muffin tins for 25 minutes.
I got 20 'muffins' out of this
So far no one else has tried one... but I could easily eat the whole batch. I am sending most of them home with a friend! (If I can stay out of them until she gets here...)
