Aside from vacation and plotting and a handful of laziness (though mostly writing), I've been working on these. Again. Still. BUT ALSO!!! A hood! Finally got the fabric! Sewing now....

I have not been entirely idle in spite of a lack of updates. I have mostly been working on my Glossary. I have finished the first run of 'A' through 'D' - now I am going back, cleaning it up, making sure I didn't miss anything. But... I have other projects beckoning. We have a few new members and a few old ones I never got around to making pennants for. So I cut up three yards of felt so I will have an abundance of extra. I've got a few done but I'll likely spend the next couple of days sewing on the rest of them! Once I have them all sewn up I will divide them in half. Half will be more of the Desert Wynds device, the rest will be for individuals.
Some are complicated but lovely! (Two have unicorns!) Jesster got the front of the chair sanded - Oak really burns through sanding disks. It's good enough I can start working and I am SO GLAD for that! I'm on break but this is where I am so far. Heading back that way in a few minutes to continue. ^_^
Okay - so I've been a bit better for a few days but I've been busy and stressed. Went to an event last weekend and started working more seriously on knitting. I've nothing to show for it because I have done nothing but practice. I'll knit four or five rows, pull it out and start over. Trying to get the hang of the motions and still feel incredibly awkward. It will take time. My project while sick has mostly been a Medieval Tailors Dictionary of Terms. I've been collecting the names for the various garments and trying to date everything properly. I think I'm almost done.... Additionally, we picked up the wood for the stargazer chair we will be making as a prize for the event in July. 16 ft. of 2X10 oak. We got a HUGE discount because we found a very warped piece. Looks fine from that angle, eh? It's got a pretty hefty bow to it.
That will just make the seat back more comfortable ^_^ Technically this was enough for two chairs - but due to a miscalculation, made a bad cut. Oops... It will be one awesome chair and a bench or something. I figure it's just as well - it will be a really heavy chair... I'm hoping we can work on getting it cut the rest of the way today so I can start cleaning and burning on it - but if not, I will begin on the next two dragon pinatas. The first one is too heavy and the weight is off - next one I will have a loop of rope for both neck and tail to ensure balance. I was wanting to avoid two loops.. but that just isn't going to happen. *grump* It's the safest way to be sure I can keep it light. (The husband is trying to talk me in to hanging them from trees at the event but I'm wanting people to run around the list field with them making it a real challenge. Even with regular stationary pinatas they blindfold people to make it challenging - we aren't blindfolding anyone! I'm about to get back to that long-running name project I want to add a couple more pages before the end of the night. But first: The pennants. Last night I decided this would be my next reasonable NOS project. The name project and illustrated heraldic glossary are going to take a long time to finish and I want something I can DO. I had a bundle of felt sitting around and decided that with a heavy coat of paint should be able to stand up to Texas wind. Plus touch-ups would be easy. Got them cut. Next I'll pin and sew them. After that begins the process of painting both sides of each one. Believe it or not, this isn't enough. It's almost half of what I need to finish this for now - part of the fun is that I can keep adding to it! But this will cover most of our shire. I may have to leave a couple out until I can get more felt.... I should look in to pricing a full bolt. Half of those will be painted with our Shire device. The other half will reflect the individual residents of the shire. I will have them alternating on a rope that we can hang when there is an event. Once I have more material to work with, I will add the rest of the people and the other shires will each get a strand of their own. I can't wait to see it finished!! ^_^ Desert Wynds!
